
The Export Controls Australia Group (ECAG) has opened Expressions of Interest for the 2026 Global Export Controls Program (GECP), a highly competitive, fully funded national initiative designed to cultivate the nations future leaders in strategic trade policy. Funded through a recent Department of Defence Strategic Policy Grant, the program advances and uplifts Australia’s export control capability and leadership. Applications close 20th of November 2025.
“The program represents a deliberate investment in the uplift of Australia’s sovereign capability , it ensures emerging leaders who are already experts in their field are equipped to guide Australia’s role in responsible, secure, and strategic trade.” said Jessica Rankin, ECAG CEO.
Targeted to early to mid-career professionals with 2-7 years’ experience, the GECP brings together participants from across Australia’s government, defence, and technology sectors to deepen their expertise in export control governance, alliance cooperation, and policy development.
Participants will take part in four workshops in Adelaide and Sydney (February, May, August, and November 2026), featuring networking dinners, expert roundtables, and high-level engagement with senior figures from Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Flights, accommodation, meals and incidentals are covered.
Applicants are asked to submit a one-page Expression of Interest (form available at www.ecag.com.au/gecp) outlining their motivation, career alignment, and views on Australia’s biggest challenge and opportunity in export controls, along with a current CV, to [email protected].
