Event Overview

ABOUT THE MODULE

The Australian Industry and Defence Network (AIDN) Queensland Defence Industry Capability Edge (DICE) Micro-Credentialling Program is a strategic partnership between the Queensland Government, AIDN and AIDN member organisations to enhance Defence Industry business acumen and workforce skills, aligning with the latest Sovereign Defence Industrial Priorities and emerging AUKUS opportunities.

Sessions are developed in consultation with AIDN QLD members and delivered by experienced industry practitioners.

Protecting Innovation and Intellectual Property Strategy Your innovation is only as strong as the IP strategy that protects it. This course helps businesses make the critical decision between “speed to market” and “secure in market,” giving you the knowledge to safeguard intellectual property, the relevance of IP in the Defence ecosystem and how to commercialise it through licensing.

This 4-hour foundation-level program provides and introduction to intellectual property in Australia and internationally with a specific focus on patents and trademarks.

Participants will learn how to identify their IP assets, navigate the IP protection processes in Australia and internationally, conduct basic IP searches searches, and negotiate win-win licensing agreements.

The course balances legal knowledge with commercial reality, ensuring attendees leave with actionable steps to protect and monetise IP.

Key outcomes:

  • Understand types of IP protection, identify your IP assets, understand Defence-specific applications
  • Conduct patent and trademark searches to validate innovations
  • Learn strategies for licensing, royalty rates, and win-win negotiations
  • Build an integrated IP strategy for long-term growth
