Canberra-based defence and aerospace company Electro Optic Systems has been engaged to supply 100 remote weapon systems to Ukraine in a new $120 million conditional contract.

EOS will supply 100 heavy remote weapon systems (RWS), spares, and related services manufactured in Australia to Ukrainian state-owned foreign trade enterprise SpetsTechnoExport after the announcement on 3 April.

The RWS system is already in use in Australia, North America, Europe and South-East Asia. The system can be integrated onto vehicles and platforms and operated by crew protected within the vehicle.

Supply is expected to occur during this and next year, subject to upcoming demonstration testing and other customary terms for military contracts.

EOS chief executive officer Andreas Schwer said the company continues to work on other opportunities relating to Ukraine, including direct supply to Ukraine and other supporting nations.

“EOS is proud to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the people of Ukraine by providing the country with the lifesaving utility of its remote weapon system,” he said.

“This will contribute to its critical security and defence needs.”

Schwer said the company will draw upon its support network and supply chain of more than one hundred suppliers located across Australia and others internationally for the contract.

The EOS defence systems team has previously showcased next-generation remote weapon systems, vehicle turrets, direct energy laser weapons, and modular counter-UAS and C4 systems at international events such as IDEX 2023 earlier this year in the United Arab Emirates.
