The Hunter Class Frigate Program continues to make strong progress at the Osborne Naval Shipyard and we recently advanced to the next phase of production.
The first structurally completed prototype block, Block 16, has been successfully blasted and painted with more than 4,500 litres of naval ship colour ‘haze grey’ paint required for the job.
Once dry, the 141-tonne block was transported on two self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) at a steady 1km/h into the Block Outfitting and Erection Hall – becoming the first piece of product to enter it.
Each Hunter class frigate comprises 22 blocks, which can be as large as 33m x 20m.
The latest program progress follows the May milestone, when the program moved from prototyping to the construction phase by beginning construction on the first Hunter-designed ship block. This block and three others will be used in the first warship.
