Commonwealth Funded Defence Industry Internship Program (DIIP)

The Commonwealth funded Defence Industry Internship Program, managed by The Career Network (TCN), is seeking prompt expressions of interest from defence industry small to medium enterprises (SME’s) to participate in the Commonwealth funded summer round of the Defence Industry Internship Program (DIIP).

Internship arrangements are currently being co-ordinated to commence from December 2024 and more SME industry hosts are needed. More than 60 internship opportunities have already been identified, but another 60 funded places still need to be filled. There are currently 300+ high quality third and fourth year engineering and technology student applicants ready to commence as early as December.

The DIIP is an initiative of the Department of Defence, and offers a unique opportunity for small to medium enterprises to engage highly motivated 3rd and 4th year engineering or technology students, in a Commonwealth funded 12-week (450-hour) paid internship. The program also provides internship payments, including reimbursement of intern wages, plus a $547 per week payment to SMEs, for each hosted intern.

Benefits of Becoming a DIIP Host:

  • Access to Skilled Talent: Engage with motivated, soon-to-graduate students who bring up-to-date skills in engineering and technology, tailored to support your projects.
  • Financial Support: DIIP reimburses intern wages at $1,129.71 per 37.5-hour week, and provides an additional $547.00 weekly payment per intern
  • Structured Support: Our program takes care of recruitment, placement, and ongoing intern management, allowing you to focus on the contributions your intern brings to your team.
  • Build Future Capabilities: Your participation helps cultivate the next generation of defence industry professionals, with many previous interns being offered further employment with their host organisations.

As the DIIP program has a December 2024 commencement date, please contact Tate Harris at the Career Network swiftly and directly to discuss further on 0431 818 435, or visit the DIIP website for detailed program information and to check SME eligibility and express your interest.
