San Fernando, Spain
Senior representatives from Australian SME, Chillflow Solutions Australia (Chillflow) recently met with European air conditioning and refrigeration specialist, Frizonia, in Spain to discuss transfer of technology arrangements for support of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).
Ben Webster, Operations Director, and John Crowder, Commercial Director, of Chillflow Solutions Australia, met with Frizonia CEO, Carlos Gonzales, at Frizonia’s facilities in San Fernando, Spain. The meeting came about after liaison was facilitated by Navantia Australia Supply Chain to assist with enabling a transfer of technology between the two companies as well as intellectual property for manufacturing of equipment in Chillflow’s Cockburn based factory.
The parties also discussed the transfer of technology to include international workforce exchange opportunities for Chillflow personnel and Frizonia personnel for the SEA 3000 General Purpose Frigate program. This would involve Chillflow personnel working alongside Frizonia personnel in Spain for the first units built offshore and then Frizonia personnel working closely with Chillflow personnel in Cockburn for the Australian built ships.
Michael Stove, Head of Supply Chain, Navantia Australia said that he was encouraged by the engagement between the two HVAC+R specialists.
“As Frizonia do not have an Australian sales or maintenance agent and Chillflow has been servicing the HVAC and refrigeration systems for the RAN, it seemed like there were natural synergies for the two companies” said Mr Stove.
Ben Webster and John Crowder of Chillflow said that their recent visit to Frizonia and Navantia’s ship building facility in San Fernando was truly inspirational.
“Chillflow has committed years of industrial experience to providing first class HVAC engineering and sustainment solutions for the RAN and Navantia. Partnering with with specialist OEMs further enhances our capabilities for future shipbuilding in Australia,” remarked Mr Crowder.
“The transfer of knowledge between companies will allow our technicians, veterans, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and apprenticeship program employees to gain access to advanced HVAC engineering systems, processes and techniques,” concluded Mr Webster.
“The cooperative between Frizonia and Chillflow guarantees a successful development of the HVAC & NBC systems for new programs in Australia,” said Mr Gonzales, CEO Frizonia.
Frizonia is the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the HVAC, chilled water and refrigeration stores equipment installed in the Navantia designed Canberra Class Amphibious Assault (LHD) ships, Hobart Class Guided Missile Destroyers (DDG) and Supply Class Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment ships (AOR) operated by the Royal Australian Navy.
Chillflow Solutions Australia is a leading specialist in HVAC and Refrigeration Engineering Solutions based in Sydney, New South Wales, and Cockburn, Western Australia. Chillflow Solutions is a member of Navantia Australia’ s Technical Partner Network and provides robust, reliable marine engineering solutions to the Australian Defence Force.
Following the meeting with Frizonia, Messers Webster and Crowder visited Navantia’s shipyard in San Fernando and were able to inspect the facilities where Navantia’s Alfa3000 vessels were built for the Royal Saudi Naval Forces.
